Charlotte head volleyball coach Lisa Marston announced today that Millicent Martin and Jessica Oldenburg have signed letters of intent to play for the 49ers. The two will join the team as freshmen next fall.

Martin, an outside hitter from Houston, Texas, is a two-time all-state tournament selection. She has helped lead her Stratford High School team to the Texas 5-A state championship match the last two seasons, where the Spartans finished as runner-up both times. Earlier this year, she was rated one of the top 100 recruits in the nation, according to Student Sports Magazine. Martin has excelled academically as well, earning a spot on the Texas 2002 Volleyball Academic All-State Team.

"We are very excited to have an athlete and player of Milli's caliber come to Charlotte," Marston said. "She is a versatile player, who has had high-level high school and club experience and was named one of the nation's top 100 recruits. She will be concentrating on the outside for us and we look forward to powerful offense and advanced ball control from her for the next four years."

Oldenburg joins the 49ers as right side from Belle Plaine, Minn. She is a two-time all-conference selection and was named honorable mention all-state last season by the Pioneer Press. This season, she is a co-captain for her Belle Plaine High School team. In addition to volleyball, Oldenburg has lettered in basketball and track.

"We have been wanting a talented, well-trained leftie in this program and Jessica fits the mold," Marston said. "She plays for a very high-level club program, which will help her develop even more this club season. With her strength and training, we are looking for her to be an impact player for us right away. We are excited to have Jessica join the 49ers' family."

This past season, Charlotte finished the year 18-15, 7-6 in Conference USA to post their first winning season since 1994. It is the fourth year in a row that the 49ers' win total has surpassed the previous season's, including the last three with Marston as coach.
