Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior Eden Ramos was today named Atlantic 10 Volleyball Co-Player of the week. This marks the second time this season for Ramos to receive this honor and the fifth time a Charlotte 49er has won the award.
Ramos led the Niners to a pair of wins for the final week of the regular season, a pair of home sweeps over division-leading Temple Friday and La Salle Sunday. The Tampa, Fla. native broke Charlotte's single-season assist record on Sunday, thanks to her team converting on 93 of her sets on the week.
In the third game of the final match of the regular season, Ramos set Cori Dayton for the school record, which was previously 1,544. She added another seven helpers to set her season mark at 1,551 with tournament games left to play.
The Charlotte 49ers ended the 2006 regular season at 20-11 overall and 7-6 in Atlantic 10 play. Charlotte achieves 20 wins for the first time since 1994, and ends up in the number-five seed in the Atlantic 10 tournament, just one game out of first place in the Eastern Division.
Charlotte ended 2006 with a 12-2 home record, losing only 10 of 47 games in Halton Arena this season. Charlotte won its final six home matches, dropping only one of 19 games in that stretch.
Charlotte plays in the first round of the A-10 Tournament on Friday. The Niners take on Xavier in the second game of the event, Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio.
