Philadelphia - Charlotte 49ers freshman Carly Romberg earned her second Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week award, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
This was the first time this season that Carly has won the award outright. Romberg previously earned a Co-Rookie of the Week award on October 10.
Romberg, a libero from Aurora, Colo., led the team with a career-high 29 digs in a 3-1 win over La Salle on Friday night. She followed up that performance with 17 digs in a loss to Temple the following night. For the week, she averaged 5.75 digs per game in two A-10 matches.
Carly is now averaging a team-best 3.85 digs per game this season, improving that mark to 4.36 per game in eleven Atlantic 10 matches. She ranks sixth among the A-10 leaders in digs per game for all matches, and is third in digs for conference matches.
The award is the fifth of the season for Charlotte volleyball. In addition to Romberg's two Rookie awards, Alma Arroyo (twice) and Lisa Newell have earned Player of the Week accolades.
The 49ers sit in second place in the A-10's East Division with a 7-4 league record (15-13 overall). The team hosts non-conference foe Liberty on Tuesday night, before closing out the Atlantic 10 season with matches against George Washington (Thursday) and Fordham (Friday).
