Charlotte's Cori Dayton Named A-10 Co-Player of the Week

Junior Sets League-High with 30 Kills Over Weekend in MVP Effort

Sept. 11, 2006

Charlotte, N.C. - Junior Cori Dayton (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for the Atlantic 10 Conference, officials announced today. For the week, Dayton posted 82 kills as the 49ers went 3-1, including a sweep of their three weekend opponents in the Comfort Suites Charlotte Invitational. Her performance earned her Tournament MVP honors.

Dayton set the league-high mark in kills for the season with 30 kills in the tournament-opening game against Penn. She averaged 5.1 kills and 3.0 digs per game in her four matches for the week. She scored for the team single-handedly as well, logging 10 service aces for the week.

Charlotte head coach Lisa Marston glowed about her emerging star.

"Cori was pretty spectacular in her attacking," said Marston. "But I am most impressed with her defense. She had almost 4 digs per game which is a strong defensive performance. She really was the most effective player all-around for us"

Dayton had double-digit kills and digs in each of the Niners tournament wins over the weekend.

Charlotte is 7-4 overall and 6-0 at home this season. The 49ers hit the road this week, with a match Tuesday night at Davidson at 7 p.m. Charlotte then travels to Birmingham, Alabama in a weekend tournament at Samford.
