Newell Named Volleyball MVP

The 49ers recognized the MVPs for each of their sports at the All Sports Banquet.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The volleyball team's 2003 MVP award and the Coaches' Award were presented at the Charlotte 49ers' Annual All-Sports Banquet. Lisa Newell was named the team's MVP, while Jessica Kelly received the Coaches' Award.

Newell, a sophomore, was named her team's MVP. As the 49ers' most dangerous offensive weapon, Newell posted over 300 kills, led the team in service aces and was second on the team in blocks.

Kelly, a senior, was the Coaches' Award recipient. Her teammates voted her one of three team captains for the 2003 season. She led her team with 83 blocks and a .256 hitting percentage. Kelly was also in the top four in kills and kills per game.
