Redding Adds Taylor to Staff for 2007 Volleyball Campaign

Former Osprey Begins Coaching Career in Niner Green

May 1, 2007

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers head volleyball coach Chris Redding has announced the appointment of Tara Taylor as assistant coach for the volleyball team. Taylor, a December graduate of the University of North Florida, was a four-year starter at the libero position.

Taylor is the current career leader in digs (1,616) for the Ospreys, also holding the season (647) and single-match marks for digs (42), following an astounding senior season last fall in which she was team captain. She was a part of three Peach Belt Conference Championship teams while in Division II, qualifying for the NCAA post-season all three of those years. The school then reclassified for Division I in her final season. UNF won 60 straight PBC matches in its last seasons in Division II volleyball.

"I am excited to have Tara join the staff," said Redding. "The qualities that lead me to bring Tara to the program include enthusiasm, a relentless work ethic, and most importantly a passion for the game. As the program is in a state of transition, Tara will help work through the evolution and add to the program's continued development into a championship caliber program."

The Fort Myers, Florida native graduated as a double major in Transportation and Logistics / Marketing, and was an academic all-conference performer all five seasons at North Florida.

"I am extremely excited to be joining the Charlotte volleyball program and to be working under and learning from Coach Redding," said Taylor. "It is a great opportunity to join a program that has been successful in the past and is up and coming under the leadership of Redding and with the support of the athletic department. I couldn't be happier anywhere else and am already proud to be a 49er!"

Though this is her first collegiate coaching job, Taylor was a coach with the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association from 2004-2007, mentoring top-ranked teams in the state of Florida at ages 15, 16 and 17.

Taylor lists her hobbies as riding bulls and scooters. Taylor has recent experience in Charlotte, as she was a player in Halton Arena when North Florida visited Charlotte in one of the fall weekend volleyabll tournaments.

Volleyball returns a large majority of its players from a 20-win team in 2006, which qualified for the Atlantic 10 tournament last fall.
