Niner Netters Continue to Improve in Spring Season

New Coach, Players Growing as a Team in Off-Season Competition

April 21, 2007

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball squad continued its spring season by playing Winthrop, Appalachian State, Wake Forst and UNC Wilmington at Wake Forest's Reynolds Gym. Since playing at Duke two weeks before that, first-year Charlotte head coach Chris Redding said that the team has been through growing pains, but has displayed improvement as they develop chemistry between coaches and players.

"Early in the day," said Redding, "the team showed good consistent energy, but we were not focused and playing as a unit. We had a large number of unforced errors in the morning matches."

"In the afternoon matches, our team responded by pulling together and competing better as a unit. Our team intensity took a huge jump up, and we competed at the level that I would have expected at this point of our spring training. We also eliminated a large number of errors, especially in the serve and pass area."

Redding also noted that the tournament helped to highlight the areas that the team made improvements in, and showed where they need to continue to improve.

Charlotte will host Davidson College on Friday, April 27th for more spring competition. Teams hit the floor at 5 p.m.
