Charlotte, N.C. - The Chris Redding era at Charlotte is in full swing as the Niners Volleyball squad headed to Duke for spring tournament action.
Now in the third week of spring practice, the lively bunch can be heard through the halls of the Miltimore-Wallis Athletic Center as players and coach get used to one another in spirited practice sessions.
Charlotte began spring competition at Duke last weekend. Redding stated the team showed improvement from their practice sessions, and is on track, but continued improvements are necessary to get where the team wants to be.
Charlotte lost only two members from a team that registered 20 wins for the first time in 14 years. Redding joined Charlotte this spring from Alabama, where he was an assitant coach for the Crimson Tide. Redding has been a head coach, at frequent in-state opponent Appalachian State.
"The team is working extremely hard so far this spring," said Redding. "I am pleased with how quickly they have adjusted to a new coach, and new areas of training. Our immediate goals are to continue working hard and improving everyday in the gym, and to raise our expectations of we are capable of both individually and as a team."
The Niners will play in several more spring weekend tournaments, before turning attentions to the 2007 fall season, which begins for Charlotte on August 23 at home.
Charlotte was one of six schools in the Atlantic 10 volleyball tournament last November. The Niners return first-team All-Conference performer Cori Dayton, as well a bevy of seniors and juniors next season.
