Charlotte, N.C. - Head coach Lisa Marston and the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team raised $2,633.05 for the Charlotte affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, it was announced today.
Atlantic 10 Conference members Dayton, Duquesne and Rhode Island also participated in the effort. The four Atlantic 10 teams collected a total of $10,083.45 for breast cancer awareness organizations in each school's respective city.
2005 was a difficult year for fundraising efforts, following Hurricane Katrina and the need for donations to that disaster relief effort, but Coach Marston was happy with the outcome of the Dig effort.
"I am proud of the fundraising efforts of our players, yet again," said Coach Lisa Marston. "The girls have consistently shown that they care about their community and want to help in the fight against Breast Cancer. I am also proud and appreciative of the four A10 programs who approached the fundraiser with energy and enthusiasm."
In three years of the Dig for the Cure program, Charlotte volleyball has helped to lead the way in raising approximately $36,383 for breast cancer awareness and prevention organizations.
In 2004, the program enjoyed its best year and raised $23,000 across all 14 Conference USA programs.
