ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team enters the final weekend of the regular-season with a win after posting a 3-0 victory over Winthrop Wednesday night at cavernous Winthrop Coliseum. The non-conference match had originally been scheduled for Sept. 11, but was postponed for events in New York and Washington.
In winning all three games by 30-25 scores, Charlotte (13-14) was led by Kathleen Ramos' 13 kills while Abra Geissler came off the bench to record a team-high 11 digs. Courtney Burg also reached double figures in kills with 11. Winthrop (20-11) was led offensively and defensively by Erin Lehman with 16 kills and a game-high 13 digs.
The 49ers jumped out to early leads in the first two games and held off the Eagles after leading 20-10 in game one and 19-13 in game two. Winthrop took an early six-point lead in game three, 15-9, before the Niners fought back to take a 24-23 lead on an Eagles attack error.
Charlotte closes out the regular season at home this weekend. The 49ers host Saint Louis on Friday at 7:00 before taking on Memphis Saturday night at 7:00.
