Charlotte Drops Second Straight Road Decision 3-2 at Fordham

Rams Keep Playoff Hopes Alive; Niners See Playoff Position Drop

Nov. 4, 2006

Box Score

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham's Kealia Ieremia recorded her third career triple-double with 10 kills, 50 assists, and 13 digs, while Tasha Johnston had 19 kills and 10 digs, as the Fordham Rams topped the Charlotte 49ers in five games at the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday. Final game scores were 25-30, 30-27, 30-27, 23-30, and 15-11.

With the win, Fordham keeps its playoff hopes alive with an 18-14 overall mark, and a 4-7 Atlantic 10 record. Charlotte drops to 18-11 overall, 5-6 in A-10 play. As it stands, Charlotte would be the 6th seed if the A-10 playoffs started today, just a game ahead of Fordham, with a pair of games left to play.

With the match tied at two, game five started out even at six, before Fordham got two straight points on a set error by Charlotte and a kill by Kealia Ieremia to lead, 8-6. The Rams eventually extended the lead to 11-8 after two kills by Jolanda Gunning-Snowden, would eventually end the match on a kill by Tasha Johnston.

"I am very disappointed," said Niners coach Lisa Marston.

"We played extremely hard tonight, but the other team played good enough to win. This puts a must-win status on next weekend."

The match stats were fairly even across the board, but the Rams did take advantage of 12 service errors in the match by the 49ers, while recording eight team blocks.

Besides Ieremia and Johnston, Fordham's Jamee Stimson had 16 kills with Jolanda Gunning-Snowden having 13 kills. Marija Markovic added nine kills and seven blocks, while defensively Stephanie Frost and Lauren Fitzsimon registered 16 and 10 digs, respectively.

For Charlotte, Cori Dayton recorded match-highs with 25 kills and 17 digs, resulting in her 19th double-double of the season while Alma Arroyo had 21 kills and 14 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.
