CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Four 49ers players posted kill totals in double figures as the Charlotte volleyball team defeated Southern Miss, 3-1, Saturday night at Halton Arena. The victory is the Niners' fifth conference win of the season, matching their total for all of last season.

Abbey Szlanfucht and Courtney Burg both posted double-doubles for Charlotte (14-12, 5-4 C-USA). Szlanfucht had a match-high 18 kills and 19 digs for her eighth double-double of the season, while Burg added 11 kills and 13 digs for her 15th. Lisa Newell had 12 kills to go along with three blocks. Jessica Kelly contributed 11 kills and four blocks. Southern Miss (14-12, 5-5 C-USA) was led by Andrea Bush and Bridget Files, who had 14 kills each.

The 49ers powered their way through the first two games, winning 30-26 and 30-23, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Golden Eagles staved off elimination, however, with a 30-21 win in the third game. The Niners regrouped to clinch the victory in game four, pulling out a 30-27 win.

Charlotte returns to action next weekend, when they hit the road for matches at Saint Louis and Memphis.
