Philadelphia - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team fell to the Temple Owls on Saturday afternoon in McGonigle Hall, 3-1 (30-26, 30-19, 28-30, and 30-19).
With the win, Temple retains the lead in the Atlantic 10's East Division with a 9-2 record in Atlantic 10 play. They are 16-9 overall, with just two league matches remaining.
The 49ers are now 15-13 on the season, and 7-4 in A-10 action after having a four-match winning streak snapped.
"I'm not real happy with how we performed throughout the match," said head coach Lisa Marston. "We were neck-and-neck through the first game, and of course we won the third game.
"But in the second and fourth games our passing completely broke down," she said. "They got some huge runs on us and we broke down. It's unfortunate, because I felt like we were a lot tougher than we were early in the season. We have three matches coming up this week, which would be hard for any team, so we have to get back to the drawing board and get ready for Liberty on Tuesday night."
Statistics for the match were not immediately available.
Charlotte returns home for three matches next week, beginning with a non-conference tilt against Liberty on Tuesday night. All three matches begin at 7:00 p.m.
The 49ers then host A-10 East Division foes George Washington (Thursday) and Fordham (Friday) to close out their league and home schedules.
Fans are reminded that Thursday night's match with George Washington is Charlotte's Dig for the Cure night, where fans can pledge money per dig earned by the Niners in the match or make a flat donation to the cause. All money will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the match is part of a league-wide Dig for the Cure effort to battle breast cancer.
Friday night's match with Fordham could have A-10 Tournament implications, as the Rams trail the 49ers by just two games in the East Division standings. It is also the regular season home finale for the Niners, who will honor the team's three seniors (Abbey Szlanfucht, Lisa Newell and Robin Joseph) before the match.
