CINCINNATI - Julie Dupont had 15 kills and Bonita Wise had 12 kills to lead Cincinnati to a 3-0 win over the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team Sunday afternoon at the Shoemaker Center. The loss evens the Niners' Conference USA record at 3-3.
For the match, Cincinnati (13-6, 4-1 C-USA) hit .315 to a .114 clip for the visitors. Following the two players in double figures, Torblaa added seven kills and six blocks, while Ladusaw had six kills and a match-high 18 digs. Burg led Charlotte (12-11, 3-3 C-USA) with 11 kills. Laura Darnell and Holly Kreyling were the team's leaders in digs with 12 and 10, respectively. Kreyling also had seven kills.
The 49ers came out of the gates psyched up to take on the Bearcats as game one featured 13 ties and neither team led by more than three points throughout. Cincinnati finished on top, however, picking up a 30-27 win. Game two was close as well, but the Cats pulled out a 30-23 win. Faced with a three-point deficit at 23-20, Charlotte came out of a timeout to rattle off three-straight points and tie the game. The Bearcats clinched the match in the third game, taking a 30-17 win.
The Niners return to action next Saturday, when they host East Carolina at 7:00.
