CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team got back into the win column Tuesday, sweeping Appalachian State, 3-0, at Halton Arena.
Charlotte (8-11, 1-8 C-USA) used just about their entire bench in the win. Courtney Burg had nine kills and six digs to lead the Niners. Katharine Hall also had a strong performance, knocking down six kills on just nine attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. Appalachian State (2-17, 2-9 SoCon) was led by Alexis Mosley with seven kills.
The 49ers went right to work in game one, cruising to a 30-17 win as the Mountaineers hit for a -.257 average. Jessica Kelly complemented her two kills with three of her match-high five blocks. Charlotte took a 2-0 lead in the match in the second game with a 30-20 win, dropping 16 balls in for kills with only two errors for a .483 percentage. Esra Akgun had five of her seven kills in the second frame. The Niners completed the sweep in game three with a 30-21 win.
The Niners return to the road this weekend, playing at TCU and Houston. Charlotte's next home match is Saturday, Oct. 27, when they host East Carolina at 7:00.
