Temple Derails Charlotte's Momentum with 3-0 Win

Niners Three-Game Conference Streak Ends on Road

Oct. 14, 2006

Philadelphia - The Charlote 49ers volleyball squad saw its three-match winning streak come to a halt as they lost a road 3-0 road match to Temple Saturday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. TU won the match with game scores of 30-26, 30-27, 30-25. The Niners fall to 15-9 overall and 3-4 in Atlantic 10 play, while Temple improves to 12-10, 5-3 in A-10 play.

The 49ers played tough with junior outside hitter Cori Dayton leading the way with 16 kills and 12 digs and notching her 15th double-double of the season. Jessica Oldenberg and Lynae Mulder both added 10 kills to the team's 45 kills.

"We had an early lead, but we could not handle pressure situations tonight," said Charlotte coach Lisa Marston.

"Cori and Jessica continue to shine, but our team needs to continue to gain confidence, develop chemistry and add energy for us to take the next step."

Sophomore Patricia Vernon played a consistent role for the Owls at the net, racking up 13 kills and three blocks. Junior Ying Sun Ling contributed 10 of TU's 51 kills, while junior Christina DeMarco added six kills.

Charlotte returns home next Friday to take on Rhode Island in Halton Arena. The 4th Annual "Dig for the Cure" game is set to start at 7 p.m.
