CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UAB won their first Conference USA volleyball match of the season Saturday night, defeating the Charlotte 49ers, 3-1, at Halton Arena. The loss is the 49ers' ninth straight.

UAB (7-11, 1-8 C-USA) was led by a pair of players who had double-doubles. Kristi Lee had 18 kills and 11 digs, and Karen Boyd had 14 and 15. Three players reached double figures in kills for Charlotte (7-11, 1-8 C-USA). Courtney Burg had 17, while Chanda Waller and Esra Akgun had 16 and 12, respectively.

The Blazers got on the board early, winning game one, 30-27. The 49ers bounced back in game two, hitting .333 as a team to earn a 30-15 victory, but UAB was able to pull out wins in the final two games, 30-28 and 30-22.

The Niners' next match is Tuesday, when they host Appalachian State at 7:00. Admission is $3 for adults, while youth 17-and-under and Charlotte students are admitted free.
