Cincinnati, Ohio - The Charlotte 49ers dropped a three-game road decision to the Xavier Musketeers 30-24, 30-24, 30-21 in Cincinnati Friday night in Atlantic 10 volleyball action. Charlotte drops to 11-9 on the season, 1-4 in A-10 play. Xavier improves to 17-6 overall and remains atop the A-10 standings at 7-0 in league play.
The Niners led the opening frame for the early portion of game one. At 16-16, the tide turned as Xavier went on a 10-3 run to blow open game one and last to the win in that game.
Game two started the same for Charlotte, with the Niners jumping out to a 4-1 lead, only to watch the Musketeers come back and tie the game at nine. Charlotte kept it close, but Xavier pulled away and won the six-point decision.
Charlotte never led in game three as Xavier closed out the win.
"I was very proud of how we played," said Niners head coach Chris Redding. "We've played two great road matches on the road in a row. We have great energy and I like how we're playing."
Charlotte senior Cori Dayton finished with a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs on the night. Fellow senior Alma Arroyo led the team and all players with 15 kills. Senior Eden Ramos paced the Niners with the match-high of 39 assists, while junior libero Carly Romberg had a match-high 25 digs.
"We're looking to step up and play even better with another ranked team on the road," said Redding.
