DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson took an 8-0 lead in game five and went on defeat the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team, 3-2, Tuesday night at Belk Arena. The Wildcats' win was just the second in the last 10 years.

Julia Hueckel paced Davidson (11-8) with 15 kills and a .520 attack percentage. Nicole Tonelli had 48 assists and a match-high five service aces as well. Charlotte (10-9) was led by Chanda Waller, who tallied 20 kills and 10 digs while Courtney Burg added 14 putaways and 13 digs.

The 49ers took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 30-28 win in game one. After falling behind by four, Charlotte rallied and took the game on a Lisa Newell block. The Wildcats answered with 35-33 and 30-21 wins in the second and third games. In game two, both teams took turns serving for game point. After five tries, Davidson finally earned their two-point advantage on a Hueckel kill. The Niners evened things up with a 30-18 win in game four, hitting a match-high .438 as a team. The Cats took control early in game five, building an 8-0 lead, and went on to win 15-9 to clinch the match.

Charlotte returns to action Friday, when they host DePaul at 7:00 in Halton Arena. Then, on Saturday they host Marquette at 7:00.
