MILWAUKEE - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team closed out another tough weekend on the road, falling at Marquette, 3-0, Saturday night. The loss is the 49ers' sixth in a row.
Leading the way for Marquette (8-6, 3-2 C-USA) was Vesna Grbavac with 15 kills on the way to compiling a .313 hitting percentage. Charlotte (7-8, 1-5 C-USA) was led by Esra Akgun and Ashley Ferris with five kills each.
The 49ers struggled most the match, hitting -.043 as a team. The Golden Eagles used a 30-21 win in game one as a springboard for 30-14 and 30-10 wins in the second and third games.
Charlotte still has one more road match, playing at East Carolina Tuesday, Oct. 9, before returning to Halton Arena to face South Florida and UAB next weekend. The match at ECU will be a homecoming for Abra Geissler, who grew up in Greenville.
