Charlotte Takes Down Marquette, 3-1, In C-USA Volleyball

Four players reached double figures in kills to give the 49ers their second C-USA win of the season.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - With Christy Galvin and Esra Akgun combining for 39 kills, the Charlotte 49ers' volleyball team beat Marquette, 3-1, Friday night at Halton Arena. The win gave the 49ers their second Conference USA victory of the season.

Charlotte (7-10, 2-4 C-USA) fell behind, 1-0, after Marquette won game one, 15-11. The 49ers took a 9-3 lead early, but the Golden Eagles rallied to tie the match at 10-10 and earn the win. The Niners came back to even things up in the second game, winning 15-12. Charlotte won game three, 15-11, hitting .382 as a team. Akgun led the 49ers with nine of her 19 kills. Galvin also had a big game with seven of her match-high 20 kills. Charlotte clinched the match in game four with a 15-8 victory. Chanda Waller led the Niners with four kills to finish with 11 for the evening.

Lexy Pool also reached double figures in kills for Charlotte with 10. She also recorded seven block assists to lead the team. Ann Lopata came off the bench to register 17 kills for Marquette (4-13, 3-3 C-USA).

Charlotte plays their next match Sunday, when they host DePaul in Halton Arena at 2:00. Admission for all games is $3 for adults. Youth and students are admitted free of charge.
