BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Holly Kreyling had a career-high 16 kills and Courtney Burg and Abbey Szlanfucht each posted double-doubles to lead the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team to a 3-1 win at UAB Friday night. It was the Conference USA opener for both schools.

Kreyling led Charlotte (10-7, 1-0 C-USA) with a .500 hitting percentage, knocking down a career-high 16 kills on 26 attempts with three errors. Burg and Szlanfucht both logged 15 kills and 13 digs. It was Burg's ninth double-double of the season, and the sixth for Szlanfucht. Martina Shields led UAB (5-12, 0-1 C-USA) with 17 kills and 11 digs, both team highs.

The 49ers took a 1-0 lead in the match after pulling out a 30-25 win in game one. The Blazers evened things up in game two, however, holding on for a 30-28 victory. Charlotte used the long break between games to regroup, taking both games three and four by a 30-24 count to clinch the match.

The Niners won't have much time to recover before their next match. They play at South Florida tomorrow evening at 7:00.
