JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Leading 12-9 in the fifth game, the Charlotte 49ers' volleyball team came up short down the stretch, falling at East Tennessee State, 3-2, Tuesday night.

East Tennessee State (9-4, 6-1 SoCon) took a 1-0 lead in the match after pulling out a 15-11 win in the first game. Charlotte (6-10, 1-4 C-USA) bounced back to take the next two games. In game two, the 49ers earned a 15-6 win on a service ace from Chanda Waller. In the third game, the Niners built an 8-1 lead on the way to a 16-14 victory. The Bucs came back to force a fifth game, winning game four, 15-4. In game five, back-to-back kills from Lexy Pool gave Charlotte a 12-9 lead, but East Tennessee State scored six straight points to win the game, 15-12, and clinch the match.

Amber Ciskowski led East Tennessee State with 19 kills. Christy Galvin was the 49ers' top hitter with 21 kills. She also led the Niners with 18 digs. Esra Akgun and Chanda Waller also reached double figures in kills for Charlotte with 20 and 16, respectively.

Charlotte returns to Halton Arena this weekend, when they host Marquette on Friday at 7:00 and DePaul on Sunday at 2:00. Admission for all games is $3 for adults. Youth and students are admitted free of charge.
