CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Trailing 1-0 in the match, Charlotte's volleyball team battled back to challenge South Florida in games two and three, but eventually fell to the Bulls, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Halton Arena.
South Florida (11-4, 4-1 C-USA) looked tough in the first game, cruising to a 15-1 win. Charlotte regrouped in the second game, scoring 10 before the Bulls pulled out a 15-10 win. Chanda Waller led the 49ers in game two, recording four of her seven kills. In the third game, the Niners took a 14-10 lead, but the Bulls' Michelle Collier knocked down four straight kills to tie the game at 14. Charlotte (6-9, 1-4 C-USA) took a 15-14 lead on a service ace from Jessica Kelly, but could not hold on, falling, 17-15, to give the Bulls the match.
Collier finished with a match-high 22 kills for South Florida. Esra Akgun came off the bench to tally nine kills to lead Charlotte.
The 49ers return to action Tuesday, when they travel to East Tennessee State. Next weekend, Charlotte hosts Marquette and DePaul in Halton Arena.
