Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers were beaten at home for only the second time this season as the visiting Temple Owls dispatched Charlotte in three games (30-21, 31-29, 30-19) on Sunday afternoon at Halton Arena in Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball action. The Niners drop to 9-8 on the season, 1-3 in league play, while Temple improves to 5-13 overall and an even 1-1 in league play. Charlotte is now 7-2 at home this season.
Charlotte jumped out to a 4-1 lead in game one, only to have Temple tie it up at 5-5. With the game tied at nine, the Owls put together a 12-5 run late to take a 21-13 lead and run away with the opening frame.
Charlotte was held to a .111 attack percentage in the first game, while the Owls came out to a .395 clip.
Temple slowly built a 20-15 lead and then scored five straight points to pull ahead by 10, but Charlotte made a couple of 5-0 runs of its own over a short stretch to get the game tied at 28-all. Temple was able to pull out the second game on one of Charlotte's ten attack errors in that frame. Charlotte had 10 attack errors in each of the first two games.
Temple was able to handle the Niners as well in game three to complete the sweep.
The taller Owls lineup out blocked Charlotte 12-4 in the match.
Charlotte was led by its senior outside hitter duo of Alma Arroyo and Cori Dayton, with 14 kills each. Dayton now has 998 career kills and should become the 15th player in team history to the 1,000-kill mark. Arroyo notched her tenth double-double of the season by adding 13 digs. Junior liberro Carly Romberg had 14 digs for Charlotte, with junior Courtney Cowles contributing 10 digs. Senior setter Eden Ramos had 36 assists for the Niners.

Charlotte will play again on the road next Sunday and Monday in New York against St. Francis and Long Island University, with both matches starting at 1 p.m.
