Volleyball Drops Road Match At Coastal Carolina

The 49ers open Conference USA play at home next weekend against USF and UAB

CONWAY, SC - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team dropped a non-conference match, 3-0, to Coastal Carolina on the road. With the loss, the 49ers fall to 6-11 on the season.

Coastal Carolina (9-6) won its fifth straight match. Coastal Carolina's Katherine Jensen led all players with her second straight double double as she had 17 kills and 10 digs. While Jessica Kelly led the 49ers with 13 kills, while Molly McDonald had 37 assists.

Game one featured 10 ties and six lead changes, a late Coastal run gave the Lady Chants the 30-23 win. Charlotte had a lead as late as 11-10 and the game was always within three points until Coastal Carolina scored the game's final four points to take game one.

Coastal Carolina took a 2-0 lead after a 30-21 win in game two. Then, Coastal Carolina behind four service aces completed the three-game sweep with a 30-23 win in game three.

The 49ers return to action when they host three matches at Halton Arena next weekend, October 3-5. They open Conference USA play against USF, Friday, October 3 at 7 pm. Then, they battle UAB, Saturday, October 4 at 7 pm. The weekend's volleyball action concludes with a non-conference home match against Jacksonville, Sunday, October 5 at 4 pm.
