RICHMOND, Va. - Laureen Bidi knocked down 35 kills to lead Virginia Commonwealth to a 3-0 sweep over the visiting Charlotte 49ers Friday night at the Alltel Pavilion. In the midst of their final non-conference weekend of the season, the 49ers play at William & Mary Sunday.

Bidi hit .518 on the night to go along with her 35 kills for Virginia Commonwealth (9-5). She also came up with four blocks to help the Rams' cause. Courtney Burg led Charlotte (8-7) with 10 kills, while Laura Darnell had a team-high 10 digs on the night. Abbey Szlanfucht hit .273 with seven kills and nine digs, while Molly McDonald led the 49ers with 19 assists.

After pulling out a 30-27 win in game one, the Rams took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 30-23 win in the second game. With their backs to the wall, the 49ers stayed close in game three, but eventually fell, 30-24.

The Niners close out the weekend Sunday against William & Mary at 3:00.
