CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball faltered in the second date on their six-match road swing, falling at North Carolina, 3-0, Tuesday night in Chapel Hill.
Nicole Reis recorded 16 kills, and Laura Greene added 13 others to lead North Carolina (9-3, 2-0 ACC) to the win. Malaika Underwood led the Tar Heels in assists with 17 and digs with 12. Courtney Burg had a double-double for Charlotte (7-4, 1-1 C-USA) with 10 kills and 13 digs. Chanda Waller and Esra Akgun each totaled 10 digs, while Megan Mosness led the squad with 19 assists.
The Tar Heels took command early in all three games and went on to earn the win. In game one, a 30-19 win, the Heels' Underwood recorded three consecutive kills to increase her team's lead to 27-19. The 49ers didn't fair much better in the second game, falling behind 23-13. They made a brief run, but a Greene kill and a Green block helped North Carolina to a 30-20 win. In the third game, Reis posted eight kills as Carolina won 30-22 and took the match, 3-0.
Charlotte remains on the road this weekend, taking on Southern Miss and Tulane, in Hattiesburg, Miss., and New Orleans, respectively, this weekend.
