CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team earned a win in game three but came up short in game four and fell to 15th-ranked North Carolina, 3-1, Tuesday night at Halton Arena. The loss snaps the 49ers' four-game win streak.

Laura Greene led North Carolina (12-1) with 17 kills and 11 digs, while Malaika Underwood added 18 digs. For Charlotte (8-6), Abbey Szlanfucht and Courtney Burg each recorded double-doubles. Szlanfucht knocked down a team-best 17 kills to go along with 11 digs. Burg posted 12 kills and 18 digs. Holly Kreyling also hit double digits in kills with 10.

Both teams spent time in front during game one. After the Tar Heels took an 7-3 lead early, the 49ers rallied to tie the score at 12-12 and again at 19-19. North Carolina took a 21-19 lead at that point, however and picked up a 30-25 win. The Heels used the momentum to their advantage in the second game, winning, 30-19. The Niners responded in game three, earning a 30-28 victory. Down 26-24 late, Charlotte went on a 6-2 run to take the game. Jessica Kelly accounted for the winning point, knocking down a kill on a Molly McDonald assist. Game four proved to be tight as well. After the Tar Heels took a 20-13 lead, the 49ers battled back to within a pair, 24-22, before Carolina closed with a 6-2 run to clinch the match.

Charlotte will be on the road for the next three weeks. This weekend the team plays at Virginia Commonwealth on Friday before taking on William & Mary Sunday. The 49ers next home match is Oct. 11 versus DePaul.
