CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team was unable to sustain the success it has enjoyed of late, falling to Louisville, 3-0, Saturday night at Halton Arena. The loss snaps the 49ers' five-match win streak.
Louisville (7-1, 2-0 C-USA) had big games from a number of players, including Sonja Percan with 20 kills, 12 kills and three blocks. Stacey Mercer and Anastasia Zaitseva each finished with 10 kills for the Cardinals. Courtney Burg led Charlotte (7-3, 1-1 C-USA) with 14 kills and seven digs. Kathleen Ramos, usually one of the 49ers' top hitters, was held to five kills.
The Cardinals took leads early in all three games before pulling away late for the win. After winning the first two games, 30-19 and 30-14, Louisville took a 10-5 lead in game three, which forced a Niners timeout. Charlotte eventually pulled within four, but was unable to force a fouth game and fell 30-19 to give the Cards the win.
Charlotte begins a six-match road swing this Tuesday, when they travel to North Carolina. The 49ers' next home game is Friday, Oct. 12 versus South Florida.
