Niners Have Dropped Last Four Road Matches

Kingston, R.I. - The Charlotte 49ers' road woes continue as Rhode Island took a three-game sweep over the Niners in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams Friday night at Kearney Gym. The Rams captured the victory 30-21, 30-27 and 30-25. The 49ers have dropped their last four road matches and settle to an 8-6 overall record, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams snapped a two-match losing skid and have the same 8-6 record, 1-0 in league play.

Senior Alma Arroyo notched a match-high 15 kills for the 49ers, adding 10 digs for her team-leading eighth double-double of the season. Fellow senior Cori Dayton had 11 kills for Charlotte, with sophomore liberro Carly Romberg adding 24 digs for the visitors.

The Niners were held to an attack percentage of .070 in the match, with 29 attack errors in the contest. Charlotte is attacking at a clip of .043 in its current slide.

Rhode Island opened the match posting a solid .308 hitting pct., but the 49ers held the Rams to just .081 in the second game. The Rams rallied after the break and hit .350 in the final game and held the 49ers to a hitting percentage of just .070. The Rams also posted 14 blocks on the evening, compared to just six for Charlotte.

"I don't think we've completely gelled as a team," said Niners head coach Chris Redding. "I know we're capable of playing great team volleyball, but we're still learning how to play together. But, we've put this behind us and we're looking forward to Fordham tomorrow night."

The Niners take on the Rams in New York Saturday night at 7 p.m.
