CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The volleyball team knocked down nearly twice as many kills as their opponent to defeat N.C. A&T, 3-0, Tuesday night in Halton Arena. The 49ers have won two-straight and three of their last four matches.
N.C. A&T played Charlotte close in the early going, taking an 8-7 lead on a block from Erica Spina and Maxine Dunn. After a timeout from 49ers coach Lisa Marston, though, Charlotte scored eight unanswered points to take game one, 15-8. Jessica Kelly led the Niners with four of her eight kills.
Game two wasn't as close for the Niners, who picked up the 15-4 win by hitting .417 as a team. Freshman Chanda Waller posted four kills and a service ace in the second game.
Charlotte completed the sweep in the third game, After spotting the Aggies a 3-0 lead, the 49ers went on a 10-0 run to take command. Laura Darnell's service ace clinched the 15-5 win and the match.
This weekend, Charlotte takes on C-USA foes Louisville and Cincinnati on the road before returning home to face Winthrop next Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7:00.
