CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Ranked nationally earlier in the season, North Carolina made quick work of the visiting Charlotte 49ers, picking up a 3-0 win Tuesday night at Carmichael Auditorium.
North Carolina (7-2) used 14 players in the match. Dani Nyenhuis was the leading scorer, knocking down 10 kills and two block assists for 11 points. She also had 11 digs to record a double-double. Abbey Szlanducht led Charlotte (5-6), scoring a match-high 15 points. She finished the night with 12 kills, two service aces and two block assists. She also came up with 10 digs for the 49ers.
The Tar Heels took a 1-0 lead in the match, picking up a 30-23 win in the first game. The 49ers made things closer in game two before falling 30-26. North Carolina completed the sweep in the third game, taking a 30-18 decision to clinch the match.
This weekend, Charlotte travels to No. 22 Minnesota for a tournament with the Golden Gophers, Colorado State and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The 49ers return to Halton Arena next Tuesday for a match with cross-county rival Davidson at 7:00.
