Volleyball Team Defeats Saint Louis in C-USA Opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Led by 20 kills from Esra Akgun, Charlotte beat Saint Louis, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Halton Arena. It was the Conference USA Opener for both schools.
Charlotte was on the way to a sweep early after winning games one and two by scores of 15-12 and 15-9, respectively. Saint Louis battled back, though and tied the match at two games each. The Billikens won game three, 16-14, and won game four, 15-5. In the fifth game, the 49ers took advantage of service aces from Christy Galvin and Courtney Burg to win, 15-10 and clinch the match.
Charlotte leaves for Athens, Ga., tonight and will play Georgia at 1:00 and Furman at 4:30 in the Georgia Invitational.
