CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kansas used a 30-21 win in game three to defeat the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team, 3-0, and win the Charlotte Invitational Saturday night at Halton Arena.
Kansas (4-0) was led by Danielle McHenry and Kylie Thomas with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Many of their kills were set by tournament MVP Molly Lemere, who finished with seven kills, 38 assists and 10 digs.
Charlotte (2-2) was led by Courtney Burg and Kathleen Ramos, who earned all-tourney recognition for the 49ers. Burg led the way with 17 kills, while Ramos finished with 11 kills.
Despite the result, the Niners challenged the Jayhawks throughout. Kansas escaped with wins in the first two games with scores of 30-28 and 32-30 before clinching the match with a 30-21 win in game three.
Earlier on Saturday, Charlotte defeated Middle Tennessee State, 3-1. Esra Akgun paced the 49ers in that one with 18 kills. Ramos posted a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs.
Kansas' Lamere was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Molly Scavuzzo. Middle Tennessee State's Shakeithia Deckard and Virginia Commonwealth's Lauren Nussman also earned all-tourney accolades.
