Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers men's and women's indoor track teams swept the Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards this week after posting strong performances at both the Clemson Opener and Appalachian State Indoor Meet. Junior Pat Springs and sophomore Adu Dentamo were named A-10 Track & Field Performers of the Week, while freshmen Ebonie Cunningham and Korel Mack took the weekly Rookie honors.
Springs, setting a school record, took first place in the long jump at the Clemson Opener Friday, jumping 20-feet-five-inches (6.22m) on her second jump in the preliminaries, breaking the record of 20'1.75" set in 2005 by Tawanna Norman. Her finish was also a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championship. Springs also finished fourth in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.73 in the preliminary round, just 0.02 shy of her personal best from the 2007 campaign. Springs took the title in both events at last season's A-10 Indoor Championships.
Dentamo, who sat out the fall cross country season, finished first in the 3,000m run at the Clemson Opener Saturday with a time of 8.34.15, besting a field of 22 competitors.
Cunningham posted a solid finish in her first collegiate race in the 400m at Clemson, taking the event title in 56.66. She also served as an integral part of the 4x400m team, which finished second in 3:50.99, ranking ninth all-time at Charlotte.
Mack rounded out the weekly awards for the 49ers, finishing fourth in the 60m hurdles at 8.18. His preliminary time of 8.11 also put him at number four in the Charlotte all-time list.
