Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte will be hosting the 2009 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Championships on May 2 and 3 to go along with the 49er Classic on March 19-21 as the 49ers boast a strong indoor and outdoor schedule during the 2008-09 track and field season.
On December 5, the 49ers will open the indoor season by traveling to the Appalachian State Indoor Meet in Boone, N.C. Highlights of the indoor season include trips to Happy Valley for the prestigious Penn State National Open on January 30 and 31, the New Balance Invitational in the Big Apple on February 6 and 7 and the Notre Dame Last Chance Qualifier on March 6 and 7.
This year’s Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship will be held on February 20 and 21 in Newport, R.I., with the indoor season culminating at the NCAA Indoor Championships at Texas A&M University in College Station, Tex.
A week after the NCAA Indoor Championships, the outdoor season gets under way when the Niner host the 49er Classic from March 19-21.
In addition to the strong competition seen annually at the Raleigh Relays(NC State), Florida and Sea Ray (University of Tennesee) Relays the team is excited to add the War Eagle Invitational (Auburn) back to the schedule as it will be a smaller but highly competitive meet with powerhouses Florida, Penn State, and Mississippi State as well as the hosting Auburn Tigers.
Charlotte’s outdoor campaign wraps up on June 13 with the conclusion of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
