Fitzpatrick Promoted to Full-Time Post on 49er Track Staff

Fitzpatrick helped a pair of throwers to All-Conference performances during the 2007-08 season.

Sept. 4, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - Following a two year stint as the a volunteer coach on the 49ers track and field staff, Kevin Fitzpatrick has been promoted to the position of Assistant Coach in charge of throwing events, announced Head Coach Bob Olesen.

"I'm very excited to have Coach Fitzpatrick with us full time, he has already proven himself a valuable asset to the program by successfully directing the throwing event athletes these past two years as a volunteer and part time staff member," said Olesen about his new throwing guru. "With the additional time to spend developing the athletes in his events and his collegiate and professional experience we expect even greater contributions at the conference and post conference level from our talented group of throwers."

Fitzpatrick has been integral in the development of the throwing program over the past couple of years as he has molded numerous throwers into top conference competitors.

A season ago, Jarryd Novotni and Jason Roberts each were A-10 runners up in their respective events under Fitzpatrick's expert tutilege.

Over his mere two years with the Charlotte program, Fitzpatrick has mentored his throwers to two school records, 3 A-10 conference runner-ups, and a slew of personal records.

During his nearly ten years in the coaching ranks, Fitzpatrick has coached multiple athletes at the master level and has mentored throwers to county and state honors.

In his competition days, Fitzpatrick competed in the discus throw at Olympic Trials four times and finished in the top ten during each competition with his best finish coming in 2004 when he finished in sixth place which was just three steps away from a trip to Athens.

During a busy off season, Fitzpatrick obtained his National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) certification.

Fitzpatrick earned his Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee where he was also an All-American discus thrower.
