Vaught Named Associate Head Track and Field Coach

The North Carolina native comes to Charlotte with an array of Division 1 experience.

Sept. 2, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte Track and Field Coach Bob Olesen wasted no time in replacing recently departed sprints coach Tim Hall, as he announced the hiring of Timothy Vaught to fill the vacated spot.

Hall resigned from the 49er post to take a similar job at Clemson University following a storied tenure at Charlotte.

Vaught, Hall's replacement, comes in with a solid resume of Division 1 experience to fill the gap left in the place of Hall's vacancy.

"I am very pleased with the hiring of Tim Vaught and have always considered him as an excellent potential coaching candidate for our program.  His experiences at Coastal Carolina and Florida State give him a unique perspective on where we are as a program and our vision for the future.  His coaching style and expertise will ensure that our sprinters and hurdlers will continue to perform at the top of the Atlantic 10 and significantly represent the 49ers at the regional and national levels," said Head Coach Bob Olesen about Vaught

Most recently landing in Lexington, Va. at VMI, Vaught has been around the horn in the Southeast starting with his first position as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Western Carolina.

While at Western Carolina, Vaught helped coach 11 All-Southern Conference athletes including a pair of 4x400m relay teams.

Also while helping the Catamount sprint program, six conference champions were crowned and two Southern Conference records were snapped.

Vaught's next stop was at Coastal Carolina where he played an integral role in building the Chanticleers sprints, jumps and hurdler squads into a Big South conference powerhouse.

Under his tutilege, Coastal Carolina produced nearly 50 All-Big South conference athletes, the Big South Female Athlete of the Year in 2005, 33 conference champions and a pair of All-Americans.

In 2005, he attended the Nike Elite Coaches Seminar in South Carolina and became a member of the National Sprints, Hurdles and Jumps Association.

The North Carolina native followed his days in Conway, S.C. with a one year stop at Florida State University.

While with the Seminoles, Vaught signed three high school national champions and was a member of the coaching staff of the ACC, East Regional and National Championship winning  2006-07 Seminole Track and Field team.

Following his one season with Florida State, he opened the P2 Peak Performance Training Center and while there he coached a pair of Olympic Trial automatic qualifiers in the triple jump as well as a 100m and 200m sprinter.

"I feel extremely excited to be part of a great program with such a great tradition in my three event areas," said Vaught about the Charlotte program.

A native of Sunset Beach, N.C., Vaught earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Western Carolina in 2001 and also minored in Criminal Justice.
