June 3, 2004

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte track and field team's Sharonda Johnson has been named first-team Academic All-District III. The team of women's track and field athletes was selected by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors Association.

Johnson, a first-time all-academic selection, owns a 3.867 grade-point average in chemistry. A sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., she has won a pair of Conference USA titles in the triple jump this season and will compete in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, next week at Texas.

As a result of being named first-team academic all-district, Johnson will represent the district on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
