CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers student-athletes Ola Jonsson and Karin Levin have been named First Team Verizon Academic All-District III. Jonsson, a junior on the men's tennis team, is a first team at-large selection for the men, while Levin is a first team at-large selection for the women.

Jonsson owns a 3.95 grade-point average in marketing. This past season, he was a first-team All-Conference USA selection, the first 49ers men's tennis player so honored. He recorded 21 wins at number one singles and teamed with Thomas Oggesen to end the year with 11 doubles victories in a row. With his help, Charlotte finished the year ranked nationally for the first time in school history. In the classroom, he earned his third-straight C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal to go along with the Hugh McEniry Academic Award, which goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA.

Levin represents the Niners' track and field team with a 3.97 GPA in elementary education. The senior from Farmington, N.Y., finished third in the 3,000-meter run at the Charlotte Invitational and fourth in the 1,500 at Davidson's Belk Invitational. During the indoor season, she finished 12th in mile run at the Conference USA Championships. She is a four-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and has been named to the Chancellor's List (3.8-plus GPA) seven-straight semesters.

Each year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects the Verizon Academic All-District and All-America teams. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA for their career. District III, of which Charlotte is a member, is comprised of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
