Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers track and field teams head to Georgia Tech this weekend for a last chance qualifier for the NCAA Regionals, which will run in Gainesville, Fla. in two weeks.
A few 49ers came very close to putting up qualifying marks last weekend at the Atlantic 10 Championships and the coaching staff hopes they might get achieve the appearance in Florida.
Adu Dentamo has posted very close times in the 800m and 1,500m runs this season and looks to make his first outdoor regional. Teammate Chase Eckard has already qualified in these two events and with Aja Jackson in for those events as well, Charlotte looks to add a third to the mix in Gainesville.
Montray Gilchrist has been peaking in the latter part of the season and will make one more attempt to peak past the regional qualifying mark in the hurdles sprint and the long jump this weekend in Atlanta. He posted a 7.00m leap in the long jump in the conference meet, and looks to add the 0.34m to get to the qualifying standard. Teammate LaMarcus Outing is already in the regionals in the long jump and the coaching staff would like to have two entries in that event.
Jason Moore on the men's side has qualified in the 100m and 200m dashes for regionals this season.
On the women's side, freshman Danielle Brown has put up some impressive triple jumps in the late stages of this season and was very close (0.25m short of the 12.32m mark) at the A-10 meet in Charlotte last week. According to the coaching staff, Brown is "peaking at the right time" and deserves this chance to try again for the 12.32m result this weekend at Georgia Tech. Sharonda Johnson has qualified for regionals in the triple jump again this season.
