Track & Field
Junior
Fort Lee, Va.
NCAA All-America Shareese Woods led the Charlotte 49ers women's outdoor track & field team to the Atlantic 10 Championship last weekend, winning four A-10 titles along the way.
Woods earned individual gold medals in the 200 and 400 meter dashes and ran legs on both the championship 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Those performances gave her 25 points individually toward Charlotte's meet-winning total of 210 team points.
Shareese's perfomances in the 200 (23.74) and 400 (53.70) as well as on the team's 4x100 relay (45.39) all constituted new A-10 Championship Meet records.
Woods' season is far from over, as she is qualified for three events at the NCAA East Regional Championships (May 26-27 in Greensboro), where she will try to earn a repeat appearance at the NCAA National Outdoor Championships. Woods earned All-American honors this indoor season in the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and was at the national outdoor meet last spring.
Other Nominees: Ray Sheedy (golf), Ben McCallum (m. track), Kristi Killough (softball), Kyle Pfirrman (baseball).
