Clemson, S.C. and Winston-Salem, N.C. - Charlotte track and field stars put up two regional qualifying times and broke several outdoor school records at meets in Clemson and at Wake Forest over the weekend.
At Clemson, the 4x100m relay team of Tempess Stark, Shareese Woods, Lajarsha Moses and Lamarra Currie put up a regional qualifying time of 44.97 seconds, almost a second better than the qualifying mark.
Senior Sharonda Johnson also registered a regional qualifying mark in the triple jump, leaping a 41' 7" distance.
The Niners set several new school records at the Clemson meet.
Caleb Henley broke the school record in the pole vault, with a 16' 0.75" clearance, or 4.90m.
The 4x200 relay team of Courtney Patterson, Stark, Woods and Currie broke the school mark, with a run time of 1:36.42 in that event.
Another school mark went down at Wake Forest over the weekend.
Adu Dentamo broke the school record in the 3000m, running a 8:22.00 time in the event.
Aja Jackson registered the second-best time in school history in the 1500m run, running a 4:33.74 result, second only to All-American Cassie Ficken. She also finished fifth in the 800m run, with a 2:10.45 time.
Other notables at Clemson include the sweep for Charlotte in the 100m dash of the top three spots. Currie ran an 11.77 time, Patterson recorded an 11.85 and Stark ran an 11.98 second mark for the Niners, as the only three to run sub-12 second times in the event.
Pat Springs finished first in the long jump, besting everyone at the event with a 5.94 jump. She also finished third in the 100m hurdles, at 14.49 seconds.
Ashley Wiley logged a fourth-place finish in the shot put, at 11.50m, and a second-place finish in the hammer throw, at 44.45m.
Jelaine Sellers was fourth in the javelin, hurling a 37.09m distance in the event.
Charlotte's 4x400m relay team of Tina Horne, Angel Moore, Karmel Stapleton and Shareese Woods ran first of 10 teams with a time of 3:44.21, just two seconds from an NCAA qualifying time.
Danielle Brown finished third in the high jump, with a 1.60 meter jump, or a 5' 3" mark.
On the men's side at Clemson, sprinter Jason Moore finished third in the 100m.
Montray Gilchrist finished third in the 110m hurdles, with a time of 14.60 seconds.
Charlotte's relay teams in the 4x100m and 4x200m finished third in each event. The 4x400 team finished fourth.
Morris LeBlanc won the triple jump at 14.38m, finishing first in the preliminaries and finals.
Mike Moore was second in the javelin hurling a 51.16m distance.
Also at Wake Forest, senior Jane Daniels finished sixth in the 5000m run, with a time of 17:33.46 in the event.
"I'm very satisfied with this weekends efforts considering it is only the 2nd week of the season," said head coach Bob Olesen. "Nearly everyone improved their season's best or showed signs that they are ready to improve their next time out."
Charlotte hosts a one-day event on Saturday featuring 15 teams competing at the Charlotte Invitational.
