FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Charlotte 49ers' Will Montgomery has been accepted to compete at this weekend's NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Arkansas. He will compete in the long jump on Friday, March 8 at 4:00.
Montgomery, a senior from Fletcher, N.C., is seeded 10th in the event with a mark of 25'3.25". He set the mark at North Carolina's Blue Heaven Classic in January. He also posted provisional qualifying marks at the Conference USA Championships and the North Carolina Five-Team Invitational.
This is Montgomery's second trip to the indoor championships and fourth trip overall to NCAAs. Last spring, he earned All-America honors in the long jump, placing sixth at Oregon with a 25'4.75 effort.
In addition to his success in the long jump, where he owns the school record for both indoor and outdoor, Montgomery qualified provisionally in the high jump. He cleared a height of 7'1" at the North Carolina Elite Invitational in January.
