Charlotte Qualifies Participants to Day Two of USATF Championships

Woods, Moore and Johnson Advance to Sunday's Semis and Finals

Boston, Mass. - Three of the seven Charlotte track stars competing in this weekend's AT&T USA Track and Field Championships will continue on to race on Sunday and into the semifinals and finals and possibly into the televised finals on ESPN2. The event is taking place at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.

Sprinters Jason Moore on the men's side and Shareese Woods on the women's side will compete in the semi-finals of their respective sprints.

Moore qualified among professional runners in the preliminaries in the 6om dash, with a time of 6.72 seconds. He will race in one of the two semi-finals on Sunday. Moore will race in the second semi-final heat at 2 p.m. The top three from each semi-final, plus the next best two times from either semi will make it to the televised final, taking place at 5:52 p.m. on ESPN2 in the final event of the program.

Woods qualified in the 60m women's semi-finals with a sprint time of 7.46 seconds. She will race in the first of two semi-finals, which takes place at 1:45 p.m. Sunday. The finals will race at 5:43 as part of the televised coverage Sunday.

Charlotte's Sharonda Johnson will compete in the triple jump finals on Sunday, with a time to be determined. She will take on nine other competitors, including one other collegiate leaper in the finals on Sunday.

Charlotte sophomore Pat Springs was tenth in the women's long jump, leaping 19' even in the competition.

Charlotte sprinters Lamarra Currie and Lajarsha Moses did not qualify for the 60m women's finals, running 7.57 and 7.72 second times respectively in their heats. Courtney Patterson qualified for the 60m championships, but was unable to participate due to injury.

Charlotte qualified a record seven competitors to the event this weekend.
