Charlotte, N.C. - Behind a pack of record-setting performances at the Virginia Tech Invitational this weekend, the Charlotte 49ers indoor track and field team was honored with three weekly conference awards Monday. Junior Lamarra Currie (Apex, N.C.; Apex H.S.) was named Women's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week, while freshmen Darius Law (Raleigh, N.C.; Southeast Raleigh H.S.) and Ebonie Cunningham (Raleigh, N.C.; Southeast Raleigh H.S.) were tagged Rookies of the Week on the men's and women's sides, respectively.
Currie took the 200m title with a personal best of 24.42, lowering her previous best time by half a second, and was also the top collegiate finishers in the 55m dash at 6.93. Each of her performances rank Currie second all-time for Charlotte, following only multiple All-American trackster Shareese Woods in both events. Additionally, with the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.92 in the 55m dash, she is on the verge of making a postseason appearance.
Law also put his name in the 49er record books with a program-record 34.16 in the 300m Friday evening, before coming back Saturday with a fifth-place finish in the 400m at 48.71, which sets a conference-best time. The freshman also ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay, which logged the A-10's second-fastest time of the year at 3:19.09.
Cunningham, Law's women's counterpart and former Southeast Raleigh High School teammate, set the women's 300m dash school record in 39.07 for third place in the event before following up with a strong runner-up showing in the 400m at 56.68. She also ran the opening leg of the third-place 4x400m relay team that posted the fastest time in the A-10 at 3:48.37.
