BOONE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers track and field teams got an early start to their season, competing at Appalachian State Thursday. The 49ers broke a pair of school records and won four events.

Freshman Michelle Dixon set the tone for the women's team. She broke the school record in the 55-meter dash, winning the event with a 6.98 time.

It was a senior that broke a record for the men. Twann Atkins bettered his own mark with a time of 7.33 to finish second int he 55-meter hurdles. Matt Rausch won two events for the Niners, taking first in the weight throw (55'7") and the shot put (55'6.5"). Will Montgomery finished first in the long jump, winning with a 24'8.5" effort.

Charlotte returns to action Jan. 13, when they compete at North Carolina. The meet will be the first of four at Chapel Hill this season.
