Clemson, S.C. and Boone, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers opened their 2006 Indoor Track season at two concurrent meets, the Clemson Opener in South Carolina and the Appalachian State Invitational over the weekend. Several Charlotte top performers stared where they left off last season.

Jelaine Sellers took the women's high jump event, with a jump of 1.7 meters, less than a tenth of a meter from a NCAA provisional height mark. Sharonda Johnson finished second in the women's triple jump, with a 12.59 meter mark.
Jason Moore was stout on the men's side, finishing third in the 200 meter dash, with a 22.19 time. He also placed seventh in the finals of the 60 meter dash. His fast time of 6.80 in the preliminary race was his low time of the weekend.

"We had a great first weekend to kick off the 06-07 indoor season," said Olesen.
"There were a number of personal best performances and top placing finishes at both meets which is exciting to have at the first meet of the year at a time when we are in a heavy phase of training. A few of our top performers from 05-06 rested the weekend and will begin their seasons after the winter break joining teammates at Virginia Tech and UNC Chapel Hill."
Charlotte will run again after the calendar page turns on the weekend of January 12-13 at concurrent meets, the UNC Opener in Chapel Hill, N.C. and the Virginia Tech Invitational at Blacksburg, Va.
