AUSTIN, Texas - Charlotte's Sharonda Johnson advanced to the finals of the triple jump at the NCAA Championships, Friday evening at Texas. Adrienne Barnette also competed for the 49ers on Friday, placing 17th in the high jump.
Johnson placed seventh in her flight with a distance of 42-8.75. Her mark was good for 11th among all competitors. The top 12 advanced to Saturday's finals.
Barnette cleared a height of 5-8.5. She finished in a three-way tie with Kristen Pace of Georgia State and UCLA's Julie Stevenson. Georgia Tech's Chaunte Howard won the event with a 6-4 height.
Johnson returns to action Saturday. The triple jump finals are slated to begin at 4:45 p.m.
